{"id":151,"date":"2019-09-09T19:00:41","date_gmt":"2019-09-09T19:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.delanosportsmensclub.com\/dsc\/?page_id=151"},"modified":"2025-09-27T15:13:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T15:13:06","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.delanosportsmensclub.com\/dsc\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.delanosportsmensclub.com\/dsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/DSC-Constitution-and-By-Laws.pdf\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Bylaws and Constitution of the Delano Sportsmens Club<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Delano Sportsmen&#8217;s Club is one of the oldest organizations of it&#8217;s kind in the state, having been established about 1898 as the Delano Gun Club.\u00a0 In those days the club was made up of the community elite and activities consisted mostly of hunting raccoons and training outstanding dogs.\u00a0 Trap shooting soon became one of\u00a0 the club&#8217;s major activities as well.<br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As the years went by, it became evident that conservation of the environment and wildlife was necessary to preserve the community&#8217;s heritage and future well-being, so the club gradually became involved in activities promoting this.\u00a0 The club was largely responsible for governmental action prohibiting the unregulated dumping by industries and others into the Crow River.<\/p>\n<p><br \/>In 1937 the club changed it&#8217;s name to the Delano Sportsmen&#8217;s Club, as a broader membership base was desired.\u00a0 Membership in the club in the early days seldom exceeded 25 members.\u00a0 A spurt in the club membership occurred in the early 1940&#8217;s, when as many as 175 members were listed.\u00a0 But with World War II, and throughout the &#8217;50s,&#8217;60s, and &#8217;70s, membership seldom exceeded 100 members.<\/p>\n<p><br \/>With the building of the new clubhouse in 1974 and the new traphouse in 1985 and constant improvement of the range facilities, including the shooting shelter in 1987, membership has now reached over 500 members.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The opening of the new Trap facility just west of the original ranges in 2025 marked a significant step to support area youth primarily for the use by the Delano High School trap program.<\/p>\n<p>Some additional projects of the club have included winter feeding of pheasants, raising pheasant chicks for restocking, and\u00a0 annual planting of evergreen tree plots for habitat improvement.\u00a0 The club also has provided a Firearm Safety course since 1955, and a Bowhunter\u00a0 Safety course since 1991.<br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The club also provides financial support to many organizations;\u00a0 National Wildlife Federation, Minnesota Conservation Federation, Freshwater Society, TIP, and many others.\u00a0 The club financed as well as provided labor\u00a0to build a new\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lakesarah.com\/images\/kohnenmemoriallanding.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">public access on Lake Sarah<\/a> and also on Dean Lake.\u00a0 Club trapshooters have raised about $50,000.00 for the Variety Heart Club Children&#8217;s Hospital at the University of Minnesota.\u00a0 The club has also donated $1,000.00 in 1990 to get the Wright County 4-H Shooting Sports program going.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bylaws and Constitution of the Delano Sportsmens Club The Delano Sportsmen&#8217;s Club is one of the oldest organizations of it&#8217;s kind in the state, having been established about 1898 as the Delano Gun Club.\u00a0 In those days the club was made up of the community elite and activities consisted mostly of hunting raccoons and training &hellip;
