Firearms Safety


There is a Firearms Safety class held at the club every spring.  The Firearm Safety course is now required by the State of Minnesota.  The club has offered this course since 1955.  The course is based on gun safety and handling of a firearm, hunter responsibility, ethics and game identification, plus many other areas.  The club has a group of certified volunteer instructors, but we are always looking for interested volunteers to assist and offer new ideas. 

2019 Firearms Safety Course registration date is Monday March 11, from 7:00pm – 8:00 pm at the Delano Sportsmens Club. There is a NO registration fee. A parent or guardian is required to register each student. Students must be 11 years old by the registration date. No online registration / no phone registration / class size has no limits. Class hours are from 7:00pm – 9:00pm each night. A parent or guardian is requested to attend the March 12th class from 7:00pm-9:00pm. Class dates are; March; 12, 14, 19, 21, 25, 28, and April; 2, 4.  Saturday April 6, 2019 is the Field / Range Day from 7:00am to about 1:00pm.

No firearms or ammunition is to be brought to classes by the students. A firearm of some type (ie. rifle, shotgun, BB gun, etc) will be needed for the Field / Range day. Do not bring ammunition for this day. if you have no firearm one will be provided to shoot on the range. Field / Range day will be held rain or shine. Students should dress accordingly.

The firearm safety course will cover hunter responsibility, firearms handling, marksmanship, wildlife identification, game management and game care, survival, water safety and first aid.
